Getting Started Guide

1. Mechanical Components

plasma_001_1

1.1

plasma_002

  • Remove any existing routers, spindles, or other tooling from your Z-Axis.
  • Remove any existing spoilboard or table extrusion from your machine.
  • Install the torch base adapter as indicated.

1.2

plasma_003

  • Position the torch base adapter 100mm (4") from the bottom of the A-axis extrusion.
  • Tighten the highlighted fasteners.

1.3

plasma_004

  • Attach the torch mount assembly to the torch base adapter.

Assembly Note

The torch mount assembly is magnetically attached to the torch base adapter. No fasteners are required.

1.4

plasma_005

  • Route the cables for your plasma torch and sensor through the cable track as indicated.

Assembly Note

Bundle the sensor cables away from the plasma cable.

1.5

plasma_006

  • Install the plasma torch into the torch mount assembly.

Assembly Notes

  1. The Ohmic retaining cap and/or Ohmic ring must be removed to slide torch into clamp.
  2. If applicable, remove the gear rack from the torch before installing in the torch clamp.

1.6

plasma_007

  • Locate the tip of the plasma torch about 6.5" from the bottom of the torch mount assembly.

1.7

plasma_008

  • Tighten the highlighted fasteners.

Assembly Note

Do not over-tighten, just tighten enough to prevent the torch from moving.

1.8

plasma_010

  • Place the water table onto the crossmember extrusion as indicated.

1.9

plasma_011

  • Attach a mounting bracket to the front of the water table as indicated.

1.10

plasma_012

  • Tighten the highlighted fasteners.

1.11

plasma_013

  • Repeat the previous steps on the other side of the water table.

1.12

plasma_014

  • Place two Roll-in T-Nuts into the t-slots behind each of the two water table mounting brackets.

1.13

plasma_015

  • Slide the water table such that the mounting bracket is flush with the crossmember extrusion.
  • Attach the bracket to the table as indicated.

Assembly Note

The water table should be roughly centered between the table side rails.

1.14

plasma_016

  • Tighten the highlighted fasteners.

1.15

labeled_water_table_valve_installation

  • Install the drain valve components as shown.

Assembly Notes

  1. Rubber washers are included in kits shipped after January 25, 2022. For kits shipped prior, use steel washers on both sides.

  2. To avoid damaging the rubber seal washers, hold the bolt heads stationary and turn the nuts while installing the drain valve.

2. Slat Installation

plasma_001_1

2.1

plasma_018

  • Install a spacer into the water table as indicated.

2.2

plasma_021

  • Install spacers in each of the three t-slots as indicated.

2.3

plasma_022

  • Install the remaining standoffs with the indicated spacing.

2.4

plasma_022-1

  • Tighten the highlighted fasteners.

2.5

plasma_023

  • Bend a water table slat and install it between the front 3 standoffs, using the standoffs to maintain tension on the slat.

2.6

plasma_024

  • Install the remaining slats in the same way.

3. Material Sensor Installation

plasma_001_1

  • This section will describe the wiring of the Ohmic touch-off/protection circuit and floating head sensor to your plasma torch and plug and play control box.

3.1

The correct Ohmic retaining cap or Ohmic retaining ring must be used to connect to the PRO CNC Plasma system. Refer to the Torch System Compatibility charts for more information.

Torch Option

For Powermax SYNC torches skip to step 3.2

image46

  • For other Powermax torches the Hypertherm Ohmic Retaining Cap must be used (pictured above the Standard Retaining Cap). Remove the standard retaining cap but do not install Ohmic Retaining Cap until the torch has been inserted into the torch mount.

3.2

image47

  • Once the torch has been inserted into the torch mount assembly and fastened, the appropriate Ohmic Retaining Cap or Ohmic ring should be fitted. The indicated female quick disconnect of the Floating Head Sensor should then be attached to the tab.

Torch Option

For Powermax SYNC torches use the HYP420580 Ohmic Ring and install as shown below.

3.3

image48

  • The female quick disconnect should be attached to the Ohmic Retaining Cap or Ohmic ring as shown.

3.4

image49

  • Remove the indicated rubber sheathing from the Hypertherm torch clamp.

3.5

image51

  • String the grounding wire from the Ohmic protection box through the rubber sheathing of the Hypertherm torch clamp.

3.6

image53

  • Use the indicated bolt and nut to attach the ring terminal of the grounding wire to the existing hole in the handle of the Hypertherm torch clamp.

3.7

image55

  • The sheathing for the torch clamp can now be slid back over the clamp handle and grounding wire as indicated.

Note

The clamp should always be fastened to material before cutting.

3.8

image56

  • The material sensing switch should connect to the Ohmic protection box as indicated.

3.9

image57

  • The opposite port of the Ohmic protection box should be connected to the plug and play control box.

3.10

image57

  • If you will be using the mechanical switch (on the torch mount) for touch offs instead of the Ohmic retaining cap, remove the four fasteners on the Ohmic protection box, remove the cover, and move the indicated jumper to the "Float" position.
  • Reinstall the cover and fasteners.

Assembly Note

This is only required if using the mechanical touch off with PRO CNC Plasma Kits purchased after November 2020.

3.11

plasma_025

  • Install the material sensing receiver beneath one of the table crossmembers as indicated.

3.12

plasma_026

  • Tighten the highlighted fasteners.

3.13

image58

  • The Ohmic protection box should now be connected to the "Aux 2" input of the plug and play control box as shown.

3.14

image59

  • Connect the 14 pin cable to the SP/THC receptacle on the plug and play control box as shown. This cable will then connect to the CNC interface on your plasma's power supply.

Assembly Note

If your machine also has a Plug and Play Spindle / VFD System, the 14 pin cable will route from the plug and play control box to either the VFD or plasma power supply (depending on your current cutting method).
