2. Base Adapter Installation¶
Section Note
Your Z axis may look slightly different than some images. The assembly and installation procedure are the same.
3 HP Avid CNC Spindle¶
Info
The hardware bag for the spindle tramming mount contains fasteners for mounting multiple types of spindles. You may have unused fasteners after installing your spindle.
2.1.1¶
- Attach the spindle to the base adapter as indicated.
Assembly Note
Use the upper set of mounting holes on the spindle.
Assembly Note
Spindle tramming mounts purchased prior to March 2021 use M8 x 20mm socket head cap screws.
2.1.2¶
- Fully tighten the fasteners.
- Continue to the Tramming Mount InstallationTramming Mount Installation section to install the tramming mount.
4 HP Avid CNC Spindle¶

2.2.1¶
- Attach the spindle to the base adapter as indicated.

- Fully tighten the fasteners.

AV Smart Spindle¶
Section Note
This section applies to AV Series Spindles - AV40S and AV70S.

Tools List¶
Additional recommended tools for AV Smart Spindle installation:
- 13mm Ratcheting Box Wrench
- Torque Wrench (up to 15 ft-lb / 20 Nm)
- 6mm Hex Bit for Torque Wrench
2.4.1¶
- Insert the M8 x 30mm Hex Cap Screw into the hole on the Base Adapter as shown prior to installing Base Adapter on the spindle. This screw will be used in a later step.
2.4.2¶
- Attach the Base Adapter to the Spindle using M8 x 20mm Socket Head Cap Screws.
- Fully tighten M8 fasteners to 13-15 ft-lb (17-20 Nm).
Assembly Note
Do not overtighten the fasteners or you may cause damage to the spindle body.
Router & Round Spindle¶
2.5.1¶
- Attach the router mount to the base adapter as indicated.
- Fully tighten the fasteners.
2.5.2¶
Configuration Option
If you purchased the optional tramming mount, skip this step and proceed to the Tramming Mount InstallationTramming Mount Installation section.
- Partially thread t-nuts onto the socket head cap screws as indicated.
2.5.3¶
- Slide the router mount assembly into the t-slots of the Z-Axis as indicated.
2.5.4¶
- Position the base adapter 150mm (6") from the top of the Z-Axis moving plate as indicated.
2.5.5¶
- Tighten the fasteners as indicated.
2.5.6¶
- Slide your router or round spindle into the router mount as indicated.
2.5.7¶
- Install the clamping fasteners as indicated.
2.5.8¶
- Tighten the indicated fasteners.
