These are designed to mount directly to one of our Extended Linear Carriages riding on a horizontal cold rolled steel rail (must overhang 1530 or 3030 extrusion by 1/2"), and interface with our Gear Rack that can be mounted using our Rack Clamps.

Multiple lengths of gear rack can be combined to achieve longer travel lengths. Extended linear carriage, gear rack, and rack clamps are sold separately.

The included EZ-tension kit allows for simple adjustment of the mesh force into the rack. It integrates seamlessly with our extended linear carriages and is still compatible with our rack clamps for easy machine setup.

The system provides a 3:1 belt reduction (2.73:1 with 22 tooth pulley), putting NEMA 23 stepper motors in an optimal range for speed and power. The videos below show the system in action.

What's Included
  • (1) Motor mount pivot plate
  • (4) 10-32 x 5/8" socket head cap screw (for motor mounting)
  • (4) 10-32 hex nut (for motor mounting)
  • (1) Pivot shoulder bolt, with precision shim
  • (1) NEMA 23 R&P Drive Spindle with mounting hardware
  • (1) NEMA 23 R&P Motor Pulley with 3/8" bore (optional 1/4" bore pulley available)
  • (1) NEMA 23 R&P Drive Belt
  • (1) Standard EZ R&P Tension Kit

Product Notes
Our R&P drives interface with 20 pitch, 20 degree pressure angle Gear Rack, which we offer in convenient spliceable sections: Simply mount rack to the extrusion underneath the rail using our Rack Clamps and combine lengths of rack to get the travel you desire.

Step Calculation for R&P:
  • The R&P system is based on a pinion with a 1" pitch circle. The total linear distance traveled per revolution of the pinion is thus 3.14159". With the 3:1 reduction, this means that the distance traveled per motor revolution is 3.14159 / 3, or 1.0472". If you have a stepper with 200 steps per revolution, this means you have 200 / 1.0472" = 190.9861 steps per inch, or 0.005236" per step. With 10x microstepping, you would have 1909.861 steps per inch, or 0.0005236" per step. For the optional 3/8" pulley, this number changes to 1736.237, as the motor pulley is slightly larger.
